Jeff, Ann & Erin on Vacation in the UK From the Edinburgh Botanical Gardens and Reading, to the hills/mountains of Wales and Swansea Bay, from London to Aberdeen, we all had a great time in the U.K. The photos below are mostly from Wales, although there are a few from Chris & Manda Reed's wedding, one from the Tate Modern Art Museum, and a nice shot with Brian Stableford in Reading...Our greatest adventure came in Wales. We traveled to the Welsh mountain/hill country with Rhys Hughes, a friend and native of Swansea, Wales, to see waterfalls and whatnot (Mike O'Driscoll was nice enough to drive us there). Despite Rhys being there, we managed to find ourselves on very treacherous trail--people have died on it. Steep, steep, and muddy--but the waterfalls were beautiful. In order to get across to one trail, we had to actually walk through one of the waterfalls. At another point, we had to swim across the river, and at a third point, with serious injury awaiting us if we slipped, we had to make it across a very narrow series of loose stones right above rapids. Somehow we made it--after about 4.5 hours, with dusk coming down, my legs all wobbly and ready to give way--and then had a good laugh afterwards in an Indian restaurant about it all...It was wonderful...The day before, we went to a place called the Mumbles--a huge cliff face on a bay, where at low tide you can walk out for half a mile and in the tidal pools we found all sorts of beautiful things: living starfish, fish of all colors, sea anemones in emerald and crimson, stone crabs and three types of kelp, each a different shade of deep green.
